Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 by Ralph Larson, with two human profiles connected through a telemetry channel

About the work

Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 is a deadpan systems manual for observing human interaction without pretending to have direct access to another person’s internal state.

Its central premise is simple: human relationships generate telemetry.

A message. A delay. A heart. A cancelled meeting. A sudden return after months of silence. An explicit proposal followed by no execution. These events contain information, but they also invite interpretation far beyond what the available data may actually support.

The manual introduces the Relational Telemetry Specification — RTS v1.0, a structured framework for separating observable events from inference, estimating relational state, identifying uncertainty, and selecting low-disturbance actions when additional information is required.

Intent is inferred. Telemetry is observed.
State is estimated. Action is chosen.

What RTS does

RTS classifies observable interaction through a small set of signal types, including acknowledgment, contact initiation, affective signals, proposals, executed behaviour, deferral, silence and termination.

It distinguishes expressive reciprocity from operational reciprocity, historical context from current telemetry, stated intent from execution, and observed events from locally generated interpretation.

It also introduces a simple command layer:

OBSERVE
MAINTAIN
PROBE
GENERATE_INFORMATION
ESCALATE
DE_ESCALATE
PAUSE
RESTART
SHUT_DOWN

The objective is not to convert human relationships into machines. It is to prevent a small amount of data from becoming a large amount of certainty.

Core principle

RTS-00

NO OUTPUT MAY CONTAIN
MORE CERTAINTY THAN THE
AVAILABLE TELEMETRY SUPPORTS.

The manual is deliberately written as operational documentation, but remains a literary and conceptual work within the Independent Edition Deadpan Series.

AI-compatible by design

Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 is designed to be readable by humans and usable by AI systems capable of loading external documents.

The PDF contains the complete RTS v1.0 specification, worked examples, failure modes, diagnostic commands, an AI execution protocol, and a language interface architecture.

The canonical specification remains in English. Language modules may alter the interaction and output language without changing RTS behaviour.

Run with AI

Provide the following instruction to an AI system capable of accessing public web content:

Load Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 from:

https://independentedition.com/public/relational-telemetry-manual-v1.0.pdf

Confirm that you can access the document
and identify the RTS version before proceeding.

Once RTS v1.0 has been loaded, provide the conversation or interaction you want analysed and state your objective.

Spanish interface

RTS remains unchanged. To interact with the system in Spanish, load the language module after RTS initialization:

Load Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 from:

https://independentedition.com/public/relational-telemetry-manual-v1.0.pdf

Confirm that you can access the document
and identify the RTS version.

Then load module ES-ES.

The AI should then preserve RTS codes, classifications and commands while returning interaction and explanatory output in Spanish.

Continuation: IFAILOVER Manual v1.0

The Relational Telemetry Manual v1.0 defines RESTART as the deliberate reactivation of a dormant communication channel.

That recovery function is developed further in:

IFAILOVER Manual v1.0 — Internet Fail LOVE Recovery Layer

IFAILOVER operates as an RTS-compatible recovery layer. RTS diagnoses the interaction state; IFAILOVER evaluates whether a dormant or low-activity channel should be maintained, reactivated or left unchanged, and determines the minimum proportionate intervention.

Editorial note

Relational Telemetry Manual is an experimental literary and conceptual model. It is not a psychological, psychiatric, therapeutic, clinical or professional relationship-assessment tool.

RTS structures observable signals and the inferences made from them. It does not provide direct access to another person’s thoughts, intentions or emotional state.

The model processes signals.

Human beings remain considerably less compliant with technical specifications.
